Rogue’s Rules
By joining the Rogue Writers server and/or forums you agree to the following:
ROGUES’ REQUIREMENTS
Rogues may typically follow their own rules, but this collective has a few we expect everyone here to follow. If you are uncertain about any of these rules, please ask! We want to make sure our rules are clear so everyone is on the same page.
We might change these at some point, but we promise to always make changes public before enforcing them.
Be respectful of others.
We have zero tolerance for hate speech. This is an inclusive space. Read on for clarification!
1) Keep conversation civil and welcoming:
- You can swear here! Just not at people.
- You can have disagreements! Just don’t insult people. Keep the discussion on topic. If you’re starting to lose your cool, take a break.
- You don’t need to moderate other users! That’s the admin/mod team’s job.
- Apologize for your mistakes! Don’t get defensive. Use mistakes to learn more and do better.
- Have fun with your server profile. Please don’t use joke pronouns.
- You can talk about religion, politics, and conspiracy theories! Just don’t try to get others to follow yours.
- Use Mindful Communication techniques! Don’t repeat yourself more than once. Limit how much you correct others. Pick and choose what you correct. Different people will have different ideas and opinions.
- Clarifying questions help you make (and keep) friends! Examples include “Do you want to keep talking about this or should we take a break?” and “Should we change the subject?”
- Be sure to ping the mods or open a ticket if you need intervention, witnesses, or advice.
2) Keep sensitive information private.
- You can talk about and research all kinds of things! Just don’t doxx anyone. That means don’t share someone else’s private, unlisted information without their permission. Sharing publicly listed information is not doxxing.
- However, it’s still polite to ask first.
- Also, don’t share pictures of other people without their permission.
- You can share your own information! Just remember that not everyone is trustworthy. It can be dangerous to share your contact information with random people online.
3) Follow copyright.
- You can share your own work, memes, and that which inspires you!
- Don’t share AI-generated artwork or writing. If you think something another user posted should be taken down, please involve a mod. Sometimes it’s very difficult to spot AI, so your best and, if a mod says something looks like AI, it’s not a big deal; just remove it and no harm, no foul.
- Some professionals, including group members, have had their work pirated by AI… and that is Not Okay.
ROGUES’ REPERCUSSIONS
- If you are uncomfortable with someone or with a conversation, please contact the admin/mod team privately.
- You can step away from the interaction.
- If you would like corrective action taken, please let the admin/mod team know.
- In extreme cases, muting, kicking, and banning will occur. This is done at the discretion of the admin/mod team.
- If you wish to appeal a decision, please contact the admin/mod team.
ROGUES’ RECOMMENDATIONS
The following recommendations are not rules, in that they are not required for you to participate here. They are merely suggestions that will hopefully help you have a positive experience in this space.
- Use the same username across all platforms (i.e., chat rooms, Discord, forums) to help everyone know who they’re talking to.
- It is helpful to use your NaNoWriMo username. However, considering the nature of NaNoWriMo’s demise, we also understand wanting a fresh start.
